Awards Offered

We will be offering medals to third place, and grand champion sword set trophies for forms in a wide range of age brackets. Please check back as age groups may be slightly rearranged as we get a better idea of how many competitors we will have.

All kids under 7 and all beginners(white - yellow or first 8 mos of training) who compete will receive an achievement award/keychain.

We proudly offer belt sparring for tiny tots ages 5 and under! No gear required. Tots competitors must wear gi and belt

We will offer a cash prize for grand champion black belt point sparring, for mens and/or women's if we have a minimum of 6 competing black belts in each/either gender that can be split either by age(over 18/over 39) or weight classification(heavy/lt.. tall short). Black belts must register for this divison no later than 9:30 am, day of tournament, or let us know they plan to compete beforehand.

Cash prize for adult BB sparring. We will host divisions for men and women, which will be split by age, size, depending on registration

Best All around martial artist award plaque and cash prize to be awarded.

Rules for best all around Martial Artist: Points will be assigned for each win. 1st place = 4 pts, 2nd place = 3 pts, 3rd place = 2pts, competing, but not placing = 1 pt, and disqualification or not competing will = 0 pts. The total will be added up for the total high point score. In case of a tie, the tie breaker shall work as follows: preference given to A) the person who competed in the most categories. If there is still a tie then B) he person with the most 1st places(and then seconds and then thirds). C)1 point will be added for any grand champion wins among the tied competitors only. If after all that, there is still a tie, we will procure an additional award and mail it. The competitor or his/her coach must be present to accept the initial award.

Grand Champion categories
Black Belts - under 14 and over 15
Beginners - all
Intermediate - all
Advanced - under 14 and over 15

Grand Champion Sword Sets

18+ Black belt Sparring, cash prize only. Will divide by gender and/or age depending on entries.

Age Categories and Descriptions:

6 and under beginners(6 and unders will be split into at least 2 classes, either by age, size or time spent training, assuming we have enough entries. We want this to be a positive experience for our youngest competitors). In addition to traditional forms, we will be offering flag(or belt tag - as it is also known) sparring for the under 6(six) crowd. Int/Adv 6 year olds may be bumped up to the 7 year old category, depending, again on entries, or they may be in their own group. Any 6 year olds who wish to compete in creative or weapons forms will be grouped with the older children

Older competitors will be split by age and rank/time in training.
Ideally we would like to see the following divisions, however, our entries will determine the final divisions, which may be further divided or not:

Ages 7-9(beg, Int, adv/bb)

10-11(beg, int, adv, bb)

12-14(beg, int, adv, bb)

and 15-17(beg, int, adv, bb).

If there are enough adults, we will offer an 18+(beg, int, adv, bb) and a 39+(beg, int, adv, bb) division as well as divisions for men and women. It all depends on you, the competitors!

Beginners: up to 8 mos training
***Intermediate: under 2 years training
***Advanced: over 2 years and under BB
*** final classes will be decided more on total number years in training than actual rank
Seniors: 39 and over, if we have at least 2 competitors in that age group

Forms categories and descriptions

Competitor(except tiny tots/under age 6) must complete presentation and do a form in order to be considered for best all around martial artist award.

Traditional forms either hard or soft style as taught by your school for belt ranks. Not to include gymnastic techniques or more than 3 ki-haps(black belt 5 ki-haps allowed)

Creative/open forms Either hard or soft style. Gymnastic techniques allowed (if determined by judges to be martially useful), multiple ki-haps, music, props and costumes etc allowed in creative open division. Synchronized forms, choreographed self defense and demo teams also allowed(1 medal per team awarded, 3 minute maximum length applies). Note that musical forms that are not synchronized to music will be penalized appropriately as per skita/nbl rules.

Traditional Weapons Hard or soft style traditional form. Weapons to be as traditional and functional as possible(except that bladed weapons forms must use unsharpened weapons or iato - see skita rules for bo size requirements) and bos to be one piece traditional style, or judged capable of sustaining contact. In case of a weapon break, competitor may continue with the broken weapon, unless stopped by judges for safety, without a score reduction penalty. Or, competitor has 3 minutes to get replacement and restart form with a minimum .5 pt penalty. When in doubt, enter XMA type forms/weapons and non traditional weapons in the creative division

Sparring

Point sparring: competitors must wear vinyl dipped foam sparring gear on hands, head and feet, mouth guards, and male exhibitors must wear cups.

Light to no contact(2" rule, well chambered punches and kicks will be counted, including focus to the face, as long as glove or boot does not touch face in underbelt and kids divisions) techniques to the following areas, head(covered by head gear), torso above belt(moderate okay in upper belt divisions), groin, and sides.

Points will be awarded as follows: 2 points for head kicks, 1 point for all others. We will run two 1 minute 30 second rounds with a 30 second coaching break in the middle. No other coaching allowed. Wins for most matches won. Round robin ties and team sparring are the only rounds to be decided on cumulative points. All others by number of wins

Excessive contact will be considered for the rocking of the head, contact over moderate on torso. Any moderate contact after time or point is called, especially multiple techniques designed to drive the opponant out of the ring IE any contact that is in flagrant disregard to the judges' call of stop/stop time/point. Blood may be considered a disqualification, depending on circumstance. Poor sportsmanship/disrespect to judges other competitors is an immediate disqualification

Disqualification upon judges consideration as to the severity and deliberation of excessive contact. Otherwise, one warning and then disqualification

Age and rank categories as for forms, when ever possible.

Adult categories will be split by gender and/or age depending on registration numbers

Belt/Flag sparring: under 6 only, all ranks - will be divided into 2 or more divisions depending on registration numbers. First competitor to remove the two "belts" from his opponant wins.

Team Sparring: 1 member 7-9, 1 member 10-12, 1 member 13-17, 1 adult. Team sparring wins will also go toward best all around. Points and contact as per point sparring rules, with one exception. In case of disqualification of a team member, the disqualified member's point will be disallowed, and his points for team sparring that would be alloted toward best all around will be disallowed, but his team can continue competing and acruing points. If more than 4 teams enter, we will try to create two or more divisions that best suit the entrants, IE girls and womens, or underbelts, or Blackbelts.
